As an artist I am forever striving with myself in a restless pursuit.
Paradoxically, this striving is not to an imagined “end” as though one could
arrive. The point of my creative journey is not to arrive, but rather
the journey itself, which begins to explain the eclectic nature of my work, and
the diverse media and materials that I endeavor to explore. My artwork, then,
is not that of one who has comfortably mastered a genre or technique, but rather
that of one who forever dangles the carrot just out of reach. As a restless,
high energy individual this serves to keep me interested and enthused about what
might be discovered next!
Evolving as it does, there is nonetheless a thread of continuity in much of my art. This continuity is framed formally with an eye to the aesthetic, and thematically in works with spiritual undertones or where human sensuality and sexuality are explored. The latter has developed into rich and seductive images, objects and textures of decadent foods. While such creations are intended as antithetical to the banal erotica of our day, the sexuality of food and its affinities to pornography are fascinating to consider.
Aside from such abstract particulars I believe it tremendously important that I draw from two great sources of influence, these are the well of history, and the fountain of modernity. The artist who is uninformed of either is more likely to languish or stumble. This perspective serves to keep me advancing in an informed manner.
