encaustic medium

CApolongo's ENCAUSTIC MEDIUMs  Now available in select art supply retailers (see below) or through Bruno's workshops and classes; Capolongo's Encaustic Mediums extend the colours of commercially made encaustic paint, or may be mixed with pigments to make encaustic paint. Our mediums are for artists who want quality with greater versatility and durability than commercially manufactured products. Many years of practice, research and a sophisticated understanding have made these the only encaustic mediums used in Bruno's studio. Capolongo's encaustic mediums are made by the artist - from his studio to yours - and are available at a much lower price than those of R&F and Enkaustikos. Request a brochure for more information.

CApolongo's ENCAUSTIC MEDIUM hard  (CEMh This medium is used by all students in Bruno's Introductory Encaustic Painting courses and workshops, and was developed as an affordable substitute for traditional encaustic medium consisting of beeswax and damar resin. CEMH should be used on rigid supports only. It is completely non-toxic. Working temperature is between 180-200˚F.

CApolongo's ENCAUSTIC MEDIUM original (CEMo An advanced blend of four products, this medium was developed in 2005 with the assistance of two graduate students from one of Canada's most esteemed arts institutions. After much vigorous testing CEMO was selected for its unique and versatile properties, becoming the medium of choice for Bruno Capolongo. CEMO may be used on either rigid or flexible supports, and has amazing self fusing and crack resistant characteristics. It is completely non-toxic. Working temperature is 180-200˚F.

SAFETY TIPS: While Capolongo's Encaustic Mediums are non-toxic, like all wax based mediums precautions and proper working procedures must be employed to ensure a safe and healthy studio. PLEASE TAKE NOTE: As with all other encaustic paints and mediums ensure adequate ventilation, do not overheat (from cold start gradually increase heat to working temperature), and wear proper attire to protect against wax burns. Do not melt more medium than you need. Do not heat medium over open flame. In case of extremely rare wax fire in griddle or hotplate palette DO NOT attempt to douse with water but rather unplug unit immediately, then use appropriate fire extinguisher, or place lid of hotplate overtop, or cover completely with dampened cloth. In case of wax smoke from overheating turn off or unplug heating unit immediately, open windows, leave room and shut door until air clears. Do not leave heated wax mediums unattended. Please research further safety tips for using wax mediums. Safe use of our mediums are the responsibility of the users. Keep Children and pets away from heated medium.
